There are many recipes where you are required to boil the Burro bananas before you can actually use them.
This certifies that you can boil burro bananas but you just need to make sure that you do not over boil your burro bananas as they might turn completely mushy and you might not be able to use them anymore.
There are different ways that you can boil burros. You can either boil them in salted water or you can boil them in unsalted water. In addition, you might be thinking if you are to boil the bananas with the peel or without the peel.
You can either peel your bananas completely or score them enough so the peel is thinner and it is easier for your bananas to boil.
Once your bananas are boiled, you can place them in cold water and let them cool down instantly so that they do not overcook on their own.

How to Boil Burro Bananas (Green or Unripe)
You can either boil green burros with or without the peel. If you are boiling without the peel, it might take you lesser time to boil.
To ensure that you boil your burro bananas perfectly, you can keep checking them by sticking a knife or fork into them.
If the knife goes in easily without putting in a lot of pressure then the bananas are ready.
For Peeled Green Boiled Burro Banana
- Start by peeling the outer skins of the banana. To peel, slightly cut the skin of the burro using a sharp knife (prefarably along the ridges, so its easier to take off). Do not cut too deep into the inner flesh of the burro, as this makes it harder to take off the skin. Score again about half an inch from the first cut (use the “ridges” on the burro so its easier to take off). Separate the peel from the flesh by pushing in from the cuts. Repeat until there’s no more peel.
- Once peeled, place them in a pot half filled with wate. Ensure the water level covers the bananas completely, but there shouldn’t be more than an inch space between the bananas and the top water level.
- Add sea salt (optional)
- Place over medium-high heat and boil for 20 minutes or until cooked. To know it’s properly cooked, insert a fork, and if it goes through, then it’s cooked.

For Unpeeled Boiled Burro Banana
- Simply wash the burros and place in a pot.
- Add sea salt (optional)
- Place over medium-high heat and boil for 15 to 20 minutes or until cooked. To know it’s properly cooked, insert a fork, and if it goes through easily, then it’s cooked and ready.
- Allow to cool and serve

Note: Alternatively, you can score your burros instead of peeling completely. This will make the peel thinner and easier for your bananas to boil.
How to Boil Burro Banana (Ripe)
For ripe burro bananas, I usually do not recommend boiling without the peel. This is because it is easier to over-boil ripe burro bananas and then they might turn mushy and you might not be able to use them.
Again, for ripe burros, you do not need to boil for as long as for unripe. A 5-minute boil on low-medium heat gives a good result.
For Unpeeled Boiled Burro Banana
- Wash the burros and place in a pot.
- Add sea salt (optional)
- Place over medium-low heat
- Boil for 5 minutes. Make sure that you do not over boil your burro bananas as they might turn completely mushy.
- Allow to Cool and serve
