Pineapple is a palm fruit that is a part of the Bromeliaceae family. There are several types of pineapple, but the most famous type of this plant is Ananas comosus, a fruit with a unique appearance, aroma, and taste.
Pineapple is primarily used for food, but it also has significant use in pharmacy as a natural medicine for the prevention and treatment of many conditions.
Pineapples contain an abundance of nutrients, not just vitamins and minerals but also entirely of a few antioxidants and enzymes that protect the body against different diseases. Pineapples have an anti-inflammatory effect.
The most common vitamins present in pineapples are A, E, C, and B vitamins. On the other hand, pineapples contain a mix of minerals – calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, iodine, zinc, and manganese.
In this blog post, we will learn how healthy or otherwise pineapples are and what Dr. Sebi says about them. Read on.
Are pineapples healthy?

The medicinal part of the pineapple, i.e., the element that makes this tropical fruit famous for its healing properties, is bromelain. It is a natural enzyme that has been clinically proven to have a beneficial effect on human health, amongst which are:
- Has an anti-inflammatory effect; reduces swelling after surgery
- Helps in recovery from injuries: dislocation (sprain, muscle injuries, and sports injuries)
- Accelerates and improves food digestion, improves the absorption and metabolism of nutrients
- Relieves the symptoms of respiratory diseases (inflammation of the sinuses, asthma, chronic bronchitis)
- Improves circulation
- Has an anti-inflammatory effect on rheumatoid arthritis, relieves back pain
- Relieves PMS symptoms
- Reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke
- Stimulates muscle contraction
- Helps in the prevention of the reoccurrence of cancer and the spread of metastases
- Helps in the prevention of stomach ulcers
- Reduces appetite
Are pineapples hybrid fruits?

In recent history, pineapples were mainly produced as seedless fruits. In addition, in modern agriculture, their cultivation includes a lot of human influence – so, they are considered hybrid fruits.
Why Are Pineapples Hybrids?
Pineapples originate from the Brazilian rainforests and then spread for consumption throughout South and Central America. Columbus discovered it in 1493 and named it “pina de Indes – pine of the Indians.” The name “pineapple” comes from the word “piña” since it looks like a pinecone. The Spaniards added the word “apple” to associate the fruit with other delicious fruits.
In reality, pineapples are neither a pine nor an apple but a fruit made of many berries that have grown together. Pineapples developed as small shrubs, while the pineapple plant consists of thickset leaves spiraling around the central stem.
The pineapple fruit grows at the top of the main stem, and is the product of more than 200 individual fruit-producing flowers that have fused into one single fruit, capped with a “crown.”
An interesting fact is that pineapples are not grown from seeds, meaning the plant’s pollen cannot fertilize the same variety of plants. When different types are grown next to one another and flower together, the plant produces a seedless fruit that develops without fertilization.
The pineapple plant can also be propagated by cutting the top of the fruit (the leafy part) and sowing it into the ground. After some time, a new pineapple will grow.
Since it is a heavily cultivated fruit, it is much easier for the producers to produce pineapples by cutting off the tops instead of letting natural pollination of plants by animals, birds, and insects.
Are pineapples alkaline?

The ph scale has a range from 0 to 14, where foods from 0-6 are considered acidic, from 8-14 alkaline, and 7 is neutral. According to FDA data and Clement University, pineapples and pineapple juice have a pH value of 3.2-4, which makes them acidic.
The acid in pineapples is citric acid, which is responsible for the low pH and the characteristic sourness. The other acid contained is malic acid, which has a sour taste. The consumption of pineapples may cause an allergic reaction in some people allergic to these two acids.
Research from the American Dental Association shows that regular consumption of acidic foods between 2 and 3.5, such as pineapple, can cause tooth loss and dental erosion.
Dental erosion is mainly caused by gastroesophageal reflux, which happens when the stomach overproduces acid, then refluxes into the esophagus. A common factor in this health issue is high consumption of acidic foods such as pineapples.
Additional health problems involving the pineapple’s nutritional profile include upset stomach, diarrhea, increased heart rate, and different menstrual issues, mostly connected with the high acidity and effect of bromelain.
Bromelain is a corrosive enzyme that breakdown amino acids/proteins. The breaking down of these compounds begins in the mouth, which is why consuming pineapple leaves you with an astringent, burning sensation in your taste buds.
Pregnant women should be cautious about eating pineapple, as it can stimulate muscle tissue and can lead to early termination of pregnancy.
It is also not recommended for children under 6 to eat pineapple in large quantities, as irritation of the intestinal mucosa may occur.
Despite all these claims and warnings, what does the alkaline diet recommend? What does Dr. Sebi say about pineapples?
What does Dr. Sebi say about pineapples?

According to dr. Sebi, pineapples are to be strictly avoided since they are not healthy, they are too acidic, and do not comply with his core philosophy – they are not electric!
Except for citric and malic acid, pineapple contains various acidic chemicals such as Gallic acid, ferulic acid, synaptic acid, transmathexycinnamic acid, isofererulic acid, and many more.
Additionally, the herbicide used on the pineapple plant – atrazine, in combination with tyrosine, was linked to homosexuality. Atrazine homosexuality is a research study conducted by Tyrone Hayes, a biologist professor at Berkeley University, California.
According to him, atrazine causes hormonal imbalance, which turns on an enzyme – aromatase, that converts testosterone into estrogen. Furthermore, aromatase is the enzyme involved in the development of breast cancer in women by converting androgen into estrogen, which later promotes tumor growth.
Final Notes
Dr. Sebi emphasizes that pineapple’s acidic content, adverse effect on our body, and the fact that they are a seedless fruit detract significantly from their electrical potency and should not be consumed if you aim towards a healthy and clean lifestyle.
